One plan for weight loss and the factors behind it

More than a prescription, you get a true partner: a women's health expert who figures out what’s driving your weight and treats the underlying factors.

01

Meet your women’s health expert

A real conversation with your provider about your goals — not just an online quiz.

02

Get labs done (if needed)

If something deeper is going on, labs point us to your metabolic and hormonal health.

03

Receive treatment from every angle

Root-cause treatment, diet, exercise, or medication, adjusted monthly, together.

04

Sustain your weight loss

A gradual step-down with extra focus on muscle mass to protect what you've built.

We care about

what you lose —

and what you build

Get specific, personalized guidance that’s easy to adopt — from protein and strength training to vitamins and sleep. So you can lose the right weight — and keep more of what your body needs.

Build muscle

Improves metabolism and glucose regulation

Lose body fat

Improves inflammation and insulin resistance

Protect bone density

Improves strength and lowers fracture risk

Medication with a roadmap

You have more options than you might think. If medication's part of your plan, we're with you from start to finish: careful dosing, side effects, costs, and a thoughtful plan for tapering off.

*Cost and coverage vary by plan. Your provider helps you understand your options, look for available savings, and find a lower-cost path if needed.

Metformin

Helps your body use insulin more effectively — commonly used for insulin resistance or PMOS-related symptoms, with weight loss as a secondary benefit.

Contrave

Targets cravings and appetite signals directly, without an injection.

Injectable GLP-1

For women who meet clinical criteria — weekly injections that reduce appetite and slow digestion, with support through every stage, including tapering off when you're ready.

Oral GLP-1

A pill form of GLP-1, typically used for weight maintenance rather than significant weight loss — right for a smaller group of women whose goals and health profile call for it.

Affordability is part of the plan

We factor cost into treatment from day one. Your provider considers clinical fit, insurance coverage, and lower-cost options — and can revisit the plan if costs or coverage change.

Frequently asked questions

Understanding your weight
Who is Visana’s weight loss program for?

Visana supports women who want to lose weight, improve their metabolic health, or maintain weight they’ve already lost. Care is based on several factors: your goals, BMI, health history, symptoms, and previous treatments.

Can menopause, PMOS, or insulin resistance make it harder to lose weight?

Yes. Hormonal and metabolic conditions can affect weight and how your body responds to treatment. Visana treats weight alongside menopause, PMOS (formerly known as PCOS), insulin resistance, and other related concerns through one specialized care team. Treating your whole picture supports weight loss that sustains vs. bouncing back.

Why does weight come back after weight loss?

Weight regain can be influenced by changes in metabolism, appetite, body composition, medications, and other health factors. Visana plans for maintenance from the beginning, including nutrition, movement, metabolic health, muscle and bone health, and medication changes over time. If you are on GLP-1s, Visana helps you gradually taper off, instead of a cold stop.

Medications & treatment
Do I have to take weight loss medication?

No. Your treatment plan may include nutrition and movement support, health coaching, treatment for hormonal or metabolic conditions, medication, or a combination of approaches.

Does Visana prescribe GLP-1 medications like Wegovy or Zepbound?

Yes, when clinically appropriate, we prescribe both injectable and oral GLP-1s. Your provider will recommend treatment based on your health, goals, response, coverage, and cost — and you will decide together what path to take.

What weight loss medications does Visana offer?

Visana considers a range of weight loss medications, including non-GLP-1s, like metformin and Contrave, and injectable and oral GLP-1s — when appropriate. Your provider will recommend treatment based on your health, goals, response, coverage, and cost — and you will decide together what path to take.

Can I see Visana if I’m already taking a GLP-1?

Yes. Your provider can review how your medication is working, help manage side effects, and adjust your treatment plan as your needs change.

Do I have to stay on a GLP-1 forever?

Not necessarily. Some people may benefit from longer-term medication, while others may eventually lower their dose, switch treatments, or gradually come off with their provider’s guidance.

What happens after I reach my weight loss goal?

Care can continue after you lose weight. Your provider can help you maintain your progress, adjust medication when appropriate, and continue treating underlying hormonal or metabolic conditions that may be affecting your weight and overall health.

Cost & coverage
Does insurance cover Visana’s weight loss program and GLP-1 medications?

Visana visits are billed through insurance, and standard copays and deductibles may apply. GLP-1 and other medication coverage varies by plan, so your provider will also factor coverage and cost into your treatment options.
